ENIAC, short for Electronic Numerical Integrator And Computer, was the first general-purpose electronic computer. It was the first high-speed, Turing-complete, digital computer capable of being reprogrammed to solve a full range of computing problems, though earlier machines had been built with some of these properties. ENIAC was designed and built to calculate artillery firing tables for the U.S. Army’s Ballistic Research Laboratory.

What is Google’s mission? How did Google begin?

Google’s mission is to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful. The first step toward fulfilling that mission came when our founders, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, working out of a Stanford University dorm room, developed a new approach to online search that quickly spread to information seekers around the globe. Google is now widely recognized as the world’s largest search engine — a free service whose utility and ease of use have made it one of the world’s best-known brands almost entirely through word of mouth from satisfied users.

What does Google do?

Google is a global technology leader focused on improving the ways people find and use information. We maintain the world’s largest online index of websites and other content and, via our automated search technology, make this information freely available, nearly instantly, to anyone with an Internet connection.

Google primarily generates revenue by delivering relevant, cost-effective online advertising. Businesses use our AdWords program to promote their products and services with targeted advertising. In addition, the thousands of third-party websites that comprise our Google network use our Google AdSense program to deliver relevant AdWords ads that generate revenue and enhance the user experience.

Our human body is very susceptible to common sickness such as colds, cough, irritation and all are caused by a virus. A virus enters the human body through the different holes and openings and attached itself to a host cell. It releases certain genetic information to a cell and recruits other cells for greater destruction. On the other hand, there are high breed viruses which does not need a hole or an opening from a body to destruct, it just find some weakness points from the human host and there it enters and propagates itself very fast.

How does a computer virus simulate a biological virus? Just as a biological virus injects its own genetic information into a cell and interferes with the body’s normal operations, a computer virus is a program written to interfere with the proper functioning of a computer. It may damage programs, delete files, reformat hard disks and perform other forms of destructive acts.

To be classified as a virus, a program must meet two criteria. It must be able to execute itself by placing its own code in the execution path of another program. The program must also be able to replicate itself by replacing existing computer files with copies of the virus-infected files. Similar to the way a biological virus requires a host cell, a computer virus requires an infected host file to propagate itself.

NEW DELHI — The head of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization on Wednesday urged world leaders to attend a summit in early June to discuss what he described as an "emergency" global food shortage.

"In the face of food riots around the world like in Africa and Haiti, we really have an emergency," FAO chief Jacques Diouf told a news conference in New Delhi.

Diouf said as populations have moved to the cities, food output has stagnated, prices have risen and food stocks are at their lowest since 1980.

He said this crisis should be addressed by the 191 members of the FAO in Rome in early June.

Diouf said that in fast-growing countries such as India and China, which together account for a third of the world’s population, "demand for more milk and more meat because of economic growth of eight to 10 percent means higher demand for more cereals" that in turn worsens food shortages.

The 7 wonders are:

  • Stonehenge
  • Colosseum

  • Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa

  • Great Wall of China

  • Porcelain Tower of Nanjing

  • Hagia Sophia

  • Leaning Tower of Pisa

Time has changed and so as its wonders. The New7Wonders Foundation, which is behind the New7Wonders campaigns, has the express aim of undertaking documentation and conservation works of monuments worldwide under the motto:

" OUR HERITAGE IS OUR FUTURE "

The official declaration of the new set of wonders in the world was made last July 7, 2007 (07-07-07). Here are some of its nominees:

PHILIPPINES

The Chocolate Hills is an unusual geological formation in Bohol, Philippines. It is composed of around 1,268 perfectly cone-shaped hills, all about the same size, spread over an area of more than 50 sq km The hills are covered in green grass that turns brown during the dry season, giving them the name "Chocolate Hills."

PHILIPPINES

Mayon Volcano is an active volcano on the Filipino island of Luzo, 15 km northwest of Legazpi City.It is classified by volcanologists as a stratovolcano (composite volcano). On July 28 2004 Samantha Mumba attended the premiere of Spider-Man II in the world’s most expensive dress.

Created by Scott Henshall the dress contains about 3,000 diamonds in the shape of a spider’s web and would cost you, not only the clothes off your back, but an additional £5 million as well.

The cost of her dress would compete  to the cost of the movie she was about to watch.

As we continue in this Endless Journey for Technology, we could not resist to encounter such odd terms and weirdness. Here are some of those:

GoogleWhack
We all know what Google is, but why would you want to whack it around? Let’s face it, even techie folk need a break every now and then and GoogleWhacking is a fun way to take a few minutes out of your wired day to play. The goal of a Googlewhack is to perform search queries that will produce only one single search result in the Google search engine. Imagine &$151; if it catches on in a big way we just might end up with a whole new Internet sporting event!

BLOB
In the tech world BLOB is not used to describe a green oozing spatter of who-knows-what, it’s actually the abbreviation for binary large object, a collection of binary data stored as a single entity in a database management system.

Blowfish
If you’ve ever seen a picture of a blowfish then I am sure you too are wondering why in 1993 Bruce Schneier decided to call his symmetric encryption algorithm "Blowfish". We still haven’t found an answer to that one…

zombie
While many think the term zombie is in reference to one of the many 3D PC games out there, a zombie is actually a bit more serious than that. In the world of UNIX, a zombie refers to a "child" program that was started by a "parent" program but then abandoned by the parent.  Zombie is also used to describe a computer that has been implanted with a daemon that puts it under the control of a malicious hacker without the knowledge of the computer owner. No matter what definition you choose for the word zombie, it is still pretty scary stuff!

choke packet
One can’t help but to picture an irate system administrator trying to choke their router when you see this term. While we think this should be used in reference anger management seminars for network administrators, unfortunately the term choke packet is already taken and being used to describe a specialized packet that is used for flow control along a network.

Cuckoo Egg
Not only is the term itself odd but so is the definition in the case of a Cuckoo Egg. For those who download copy protected songs, one day you may come across Cuckoo Egg yourself. As you sit back to enjoy the tune, within the first 30 seconds you may hear something other than the initial song; usually cuckoo clock sound effects or a series of random sounds and noises that are free of any copyright ownerships. Cuckoo on you for not buying the CD in the first place!
